SUMMARY:Stories from the Deep: June BLUU Worship
DESCRIPTION:In times of crisis and collapse\, it can be difficult to see the examples of cooperation and sustainability all around us; to believe that it can be better than it is right now. The world of our older non-human relatives rests on interconnected cycles of death\, rebirth\, and alignment. As the seasons change\, we will explore three stories from the deep sea.

SUMMARY:Risk Discernment in Justice Movements: A Panel for BIPOC Communities
DESCRIPTION:In a climate of intensifying political pressure\, targeting of those who dissent\, and erosion of constitutional rights\, how do we continue to move forward in justice work while protecting ourselves and our communities? \nDRUUMM and BLUU are partnering for a vital\, timely panel discussion on risk discernment for people of the global majority (Black\, Indigenous\, and people of color). Together\, we will dive into the questions these tumultuous times demand: \n❓What is the moment calling us to do?\n❓How do we maneuver to speak out boldly AND stay safe?\n❓How is faith informing how we show up? \nJoin us for a critical conversation grounded in love\, faith\, and community care\, followed by an open Q&A. \n✨ Featured Panelists:\nLena K. Gardner (Executive Director\, BLUU)\nAtena Danner (Organizing Director\, UU Action Network of Illinois)\nRev. Kevin Mann (Co-Director\, DRUUMM California) \n️ Move with us in community.

SUMMARY:August BLUU Worship
DESCRIPTION:This Sunday\, Rev. Dr. Donte’ Hilliard will lead BLUU worship as our new Minister for Worship and Spiritual Care. Please join us for a beautiful worship service\, and help us show him an extra warm welcome. \nYou are encouraged to adorn yourself in hues of black\, violet/purple\, and gold as we embrace this season of Becoming\, Beginnings\, & Beloveds. \n  \nBlack Sacred Space \nBLUU’s online worship services are Black Sacred Space in their entirety — by and for Black people\, with the words and voices of Black folks across the diaspora — and we hope that Black UUs and Black UU-adjacent folks (who share our values) from far and wide will join us! \nFor our non-Black siblings in faith\, please DO share this invitation with Black folks in your life and community. Getting the word out about BLUU’s gatherings and other programming is one powerful way of lending your support\, and we deeply appreciate it! \nFor all of our services\, feel free to come into our BLUU Zoom Room as early as 15 minutes before the start of the service to get settled\, say hello to the folks who are already gathering\, and listen to the music softly playing as we all prepare for our time together.

SUMMARY:Releasing Respectability: Embracing Self-Determination (A Black August Event)

Let’s gather together for a time of learning\, reflection\, and connection. \nThis event is open to the public and people across all racial identities. SUMMARY:Troublin’ the Water (BLUU Homecoming Service)
DESCRIPTION:During the first worship service of September\, as UU’s\, we celebrate the beginning of a new “Church Year\, ” known as Homecoming or Ingathering.  It is a time to reconnect with our community of Beloveds. It is a time to reach out to  those we have lost contact with and check on them and extend invitations to return “home”. In September\, we also focus on our connection to our ancestors. In many of our traditions\, the fall is a time when the “veil” between our reality and the “unseen” world thins. This thinning of the “veil” allows us increased access to our ancestors. \nLiturgically\, September is also a period of transition where we acknowledge the realities of our death and re-birth in the African Diaspora through the horrors of Colonialism and the Middle Passage . In September we honor the element of water for its entangled significance to our story of faith\, culture\, wisdom\, and thriving. We do this through our unique approach to Water Communion. \nBring Materials to Virtual Worship (Optional):\nFor our BLUU Water Communion we invite all attendees to bring with them or gather materials to participate in our water communion ritual.  Materials: 2 clean vessels. One of the vessels should have drinkable water in it. The other should be empty. The vessels should be good for pouring from one to the other.
